Serena Williams has been sharing updates about herself on social media, but netizens feel that her appearance has changed in her latest photos.

The tennis icon is in Paris, France, for Vogue World 2024. She shared a clip on TikTok to give her followers a glimpse of the event. In it, she said, "Welcome to Vogue World." However, she allegedly looked unrecognizable to several social media users, with some critics claiming she was trying to fit in with white people.

In the clip, Williams rocked a black outfit and blonde hair. She also showed the people presumably with her, and they were visibly not Black like her.

"Does Serena have any Black friends? Because this s**t is sad," one wrote on X, formerly Twitter, along with Williams' video and a black man facepalming emoji.

"I honestly think she doesn't, and I think she has white friends it appears that's what she desires to be.. in my opinion," another person commented.

Someone else added, "All of her assistants are white."

"[S]he bleaching, she blonde, she got some work done, she got a white husband... she wants to be a white woman so bad like most women with the look," a different user wrote.

"Ohhhh ok I guess she wanted to fit in with these folks," a different commenter claimed, with multiple rolling on the floor laughing emojis.

"She started to look like this ever since she started dating white men," another critic alleged.

"[A]in't no way they made that movie about how hard her life was just for her to wanna be a white lady," one user said, referring to the 2021 biopic "King Richard" starring Will Smith.

Another also shared a screenshot from the video and claimed that the white people with Williams "don't like her."

A different user said they were "thinking the same" and even sensed a "bit of animosity."

"Pretty much she'll never be accepted in the circles she's trying to be in, or the circle she came from," one opined.

A different user agreed, writing, "You are absolutely right."

"She's trying to use them as 'local colour' without their consent. She's down bad and rude AF," a different user alleged.

Some also said that Williams reminded them of the "White Chicks" movie, where two Black cops pretended to be white ladies. Another said that in two years, she will be unrecognizable like Sammy Sosa, the former Chicago Cubs slugger who admitted to using a bleaching cream before going to bed to whiten his skin.

Despite the intense backlash over Williams and the allegations that she wanted to be like white people due to her skin allegedly becoming lighter, many were also quick to defend the former athlete.

"Lol, do you not understand what lighting and filters do? Her natural tone is very much intact. These are posts she shared on Instagram back in Feb," one supporter wrote.

"European standards make black women extremely insecure, they choose to live by that standard but let's not bully Serena," another said, urging the others to stop the hate.

"No all the black people do is clown her, and now y'all pushed her away, and this is the result. Don't try to care now, that's what happens when you feel like you have to go elsewhere. I always loved the Williams sisters .....I hate her stylist and MUA...they need to truly be fired," another fan wrote.

"Leave her tf alone. Yall just don't know when enough is enough. Is she bothering you?" a different user opined.

"I just couldn't care less. The champ can do whatever she wants as long as she's happy lol stop giving her crap for who she hangs with," another supporter said.

When Williams was in Italy last week, she also shared a clip of her posing on a veranda with the Milan Cathedral or Duomo di Milano in the background. The post also received intense backlash, with many calling her out for allegedly "turning into a white lady."
