'RIP Keke' Trends On X And People Thought Keke Palmer Died
Keke Palmer fans were shocked and thought the actress died after "RIP Keke" became a trending topic on X Tuesday.
The hashtag that trended was not about the 30-year-old "Nope" actress but rather "Love & Marriage: Huntsville" star KeKe Jabbar, whose passing was announced Tuesday. She was 42.
However, many users on X, formerly Twitter, initially thought that it was Palmer who died.
"I saw RIP Keke and thought something happened to Keke Palmer," one person tweeted.
"I saw [RIP] Keke trending and my heart dropped. Don't y'all ever do that again," another wrote.
A third post read: "I [saw RIP] Keke trending, I almost fainted. I thought they [were] talking about Keke Palmer."
"When I see 'RIP Keke' trending and it wasn't Keke Palmer," another wrote alongside the viral meme of Palmer saying, "Sorry to this man."
Tributes also poured in for Jabbar on the "RIP Keke" hashtag on X.
"Stunned and saddened by the news! Rip Keke Jabbar! Your passing is a tremendous loss. May your memory be a blessing and your soul find eternal peace," one user wrote.
Another wrote, "I was deeply saddened to hear about the loss of KeKe Jabbar today. My heart goes out to Latisha [Scott] and the entire family during this difficult time. Please know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers and we send our deepest condolences."
Blogger Marcella Speaks announced Jabbar's passing during a YouTube livestream Tuesday.
Reading a statement from the reality star's family, Marcella said Jabbar died "peacefully at home surrounded in love."
The cause of death was not disclosed.
Scott, Jabbar's cousin and reality TV co-star, also confirmed her death on Instagram, writing: "At this time we are asking for RESPECT, and PRIVACY in our moment of grief, while we process this great loss! This is hard for our family!!!!!"
Meanwhile, Palmer was active on social media Tuesday.
The last tweet on her X account came Tuesday night when she wished Saweetie a happy birthday.
Palmer also recently posted photos from the 2024 BET Awards, where she performed Usher's 1997 hit "You Make Me Wanna..." in a tribute to the singer Sunday night.
"Thank you BET!" Palmer tweeted. "Such a great moment to be apart of. All the ladies killed it!"
