Meghan Markle, Prince Harry Question William's Motive For Sharing Taylor Swift Selfie After Being Denied By Singer: Report
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were not thrilled with Prince William posing for a selfie with Taylor Swift, according to a source.
The Prince of Wales celebrated his 42nd birthday at Swift's concert at Wembley Stadium on June 21. The "Shake It Off" singer paid tribute to the future king by posting a selfie with him, his children -- Prince George, 10, and Princess Charlotte, 9 -- and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, on social media, which the heir apparent shared on his official account. The snap was taken backstage, and they were all grinning at the camera. However, not everyone who saw the photograph was pleased, according to an insider.
"It's no secret Meghan went out of her way to try and build a relationship with Taylor and got nowhere, so it's hard for her and Harry not to see this as being a calculated way for William and the royals to undermine them further, it's certainly rubbing salt in the wound," an unnamed source told Closer.
"They don't begrudge William taking the kids to her show, it's not like they're ranting and raving over that or even saying he shouldn't have gone. It's the selfie that's set them off because it's just so out of the ordinary for the royals to publicise something like that, even William's own fans have branded it as shade towards the Sussexes, so it's understandable Meghan and Harry are feeling the sting and questioning William's motives."
The source claimed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were Swifties and "would love some sort of relationship with her." However, with the Prince of Wales sharing his "big public connection with Taylor," the Sussexes allegedly felt that they would be "labeled as [a] cheap copycat," and it was reportedly unfair since both had been "self-proclaimed Swifties for so long now."
Prince William seemingly enjoyed Swift's concert. He was caught on camera dancing to Swift's hit "Shake It Off." Many were happy to see the royal dad having fun, especially because he was going through a lot amid the cancer battles of his father, King Charles, and wife, Kate Middleton.
Prince William and Swift's selfie also prompted many to conclude that the pop superstar was Team Wales amid the latter's feud with the Sussexes. The heir apparent and Grammy winner had a history. Prior to their reunion at her concert in the U.K., the pair sang together with Jon Bon Jovi at a Centrepoint charity event at Kensington Palace in 2013.
