Abraham Lincoln probably slept with more men than women, according to an expert in a new documentary about the late U.S. president.

The new documentary on Honest Abe titled "Lover of Men: The Untold History of Abraham Lincoln" will reportedly feature the 16th U.S. president in a new light. It will allegedly show his romantic ties with multiple men, Page Six reported.

"As told by preeminent Lincoln scholars and never before seen photographs and letters, the film details Lincoln's romantic relationships with men," the promo copy for the upcoming project read, accompanying the trailer released on YouTube.

The documentary interviews several scholars and experts from Harvard, Columbia, Brown, Wellesley and Rutgers, who talk about Lincoln's sexuality. The movie will reportedly delve "into the history of human sexual fluidity and focuses on the profound differences between sexual mores of the 19th century and those we hold today."

"The film fills in an important missing piece of American history and challenges the audience to consider why we hold such a limited view of human sexuality. 'Lover Of Men' is not only an exploration of gender roles and sexual identity, but also serves as an examination of American intolerance," indicated the promo.

In the official trailer, one expert claims Lincoln had "probably slept in the same bed with men more than he did with women." Another suggests that one factor that fascinated scholars was his bedding down with Joshua Speed for four years.

A different expert claims in the video that "there was love" between Lincoln and Speed. Another voices agreement, saying that when they put all the evidence together, referring to their letters, it was "startling."

"Lincoln has a type -- dashing, daring," another claimed.

According to experts, sexuality during the mid-19th century was "more fluid." However, for someone who wanted to pursue a political career like Lincoln, it was allegedly "mandatory" to have a wife.

The trailer also features a part of Lincoln's purported letter addressed to Speed, which read, "Dear Speed, I shall be very lonesome without you. Yours forever, Lincoln."

At the time, there was reportedly a "very strict marriage culture." It was believed that everything was possible when one was married.

Aside from Speed, experts claim that Captain David Derickson had romantic ties with the late president. The two gentlemen were friends, but they reportedly slept together when Lincoln's wife was not home. Derickson was also reportedly seen wearing Lincoln's nightshirt.

This isn't the first time Lincoln's sexuality has been questioned. The claims in the documentary were also covered in the 2005 book "The Intimate World of Abraham Lincoln" by renowned psychologist, therapist and sex researcher C.A. Tripp. The author claimed Lincoln was "awkward around single women" but "enjoyed close relationships with a number of men."

Gore Vidal, a writer and novelist who examined Tripp's book, also said that the story about Lincoln's alleged first love and great love, Ann Rutledge, who died tragically, was an invention of his law partner William Herndon because the latter reportedly suspected Lincoln had remained "uncomfortable" with women and "needed some beefing up in the boy-girl department." He reportedly had "no girlfriends in youth." Lincoln's stepmother also said following his death that "he was not very fond of girls."

"Herndon feverishly 'researched' and embellished the Ann Rutledge story for years, but a generation or two of scholar squirrels have successfully shot that story down," Vidal wrote in a column for Vanity Fair.

"Love of Men" is directed by Shaun Peterson. The filmmaker called the documentary his "passion project" in a post on Instagram in May.

"Years in the making...my passion project has come to life," the filmmaker wrote.

"Lover of Men: The Untold History of Abraham Lincoln" is coming soon to theaters nationwide.
