Shannen Doherty's Heartfelt Message To Kate Middleton On Cancer Battle Resurfaces After Actress' Death
Shannen Doherty's heartfelt message for Kate Middleton amid her cancer battle resurfaced following the actress' death on Thursday.
Doherty died on July 13, 2024, at her home in Malibu, California, after years of battling cancer. She was 52.
However, months before her death, the actress known for her roles on "Beverly Hills: 90210" and "Charmed" sent words of encouragement to the Princess of Wales following the announcement of her cancer diagnosis.
In a resurfaced Instagram post from March, the Tennessee native spoke about the struggles the royal must have gone through amid her illness. She asked the public to "respect" Middleton's privacy while praising her "strength."
"Being a public figure does not mean the public owns that person. We ALL have the right to go [through] illness or life privately," Doherty wrote.
"The onslaught of conspiracy theories, ownership and plain morbid curiosity forced this person to explain herself before she had come to terms with it and explained to her children."
The actress added, "I pray this is a learning moment for us all to respect [the] privacy of others regardless of being in the public eye. And to Princess Kate, I admire your strength [through] the endless onslaught you've been under while going [through] cancer."
Doherty had battled breast cancer since 2015. Her public struggle with the disease and her advocacy for cancer awareness inspired many worldwide.
Middleton is currently battling a form of cancer, which she confirmed through a heartwarming video in March. Prince William's wife also revealed that she is undergoing chemotherapy.
Despite stepping away from the spotlight while she underwent treatment, Middleton still attended the 2024 Wimbledon Men's Final on Sunday.
The longtime tennis fan and royal patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club received a standing ovation from the crowd as she entered the venue. She presented Carlos Alcaraz with the trophy after defeating Novak Djokovic.
