Prince William Seemingly Fires Queen Camilla's Sister From Royal Job She's Held For Nearly 20 Years: Report
Prince William has seemingly stopped employing Queen Camilla's sister as interior designer for the Duchy of Cornwall, according to a new report.
Based on the Duchy of Cornwall's latest Integrated Annual Report, Prince William appeared to have removed his stepmother's sister Annabel Elliot from the payroll of the estate, which he inherited when his father, King Charles III, acceded to the throne in September 2022.
The report revealed that, for the first time in nearly two decades, Elliot was not paid for her services during 2023-2024 -- Prince William's first full year as Duke of Cornwall.
Unnamed sources confirmed to The Telegraph that the Prince of Wales decided not to retain Elliot's services but clarified that this decision "was no reflection on her work."
According to the insiders, Elliot's "extensive interiors work across the estate is considered complete and the current staff have learned sufficiently from her."
Then-Prince Charles hired Elliot as the chief designer of his estates after his marriage to Camilla in 2005.
Since then, the Duchy of Cornwall -- which provides income for the heir to the throne -- had paid Elliot hundreds of thousands of dollars for her work.
Among her responsibilities were decorating, updating and maintaining various properties under the Duchy of Cornwall portfolio, which is valued at $1.3 billion by Forbes.
She also bought furniture, furnishings and retail stock for certain properties.
"During the period to [Sept. 8, 2022,] the Duchy paid Mrs. Annabel Elliot, the 24th Duke of Cornwall's sister-in-law, in the normal course of business and on an arm's length basis £19,625 ($25,276.51) for fees and commission and £12,316 ($15,862.70) for the purchase of furniture, furnishings and retail stock for the Duchy of Cornwall Holiday accommodation, Duchy offices and Duchy Nursery," the report said, repeating information shared last year.
"At [March 31, 2024,] there was £nil (2023: £nil) remaining payable to Mrs. Elliot in respect of these," it continued.
Though Prince William decided not to rehire her as an interior designer, Elliot still has other professional ties with the royal family.
She is currently overseeing the refurbishment of the visitor center and restaurant at Balmoral as it prepares to welcome visitors this summer.
Unnamed Buckingham Palace insiders told The Telegraph that the royal family plans to rehire Elliot in the future if there are "appropriate opportunities."
