Kate Middleton, Prince William Baby: Duke & Duchess Of Cambridge Welcome Second Child, A GIRL
Prince George officially has a little sister!
Kate Middleton, The Duchess of Cambridge, officially gave birth to a little girl on May 2, making Prince George a big brother. No
The official announcement about the royal baby's birth was made on the official Kensington Palace Twitter account at 11:09 a.m. British Summer Time on May 2.
The birth came after much speculation on whether or not the next royal baby (who officially became fourth in line for the throne behind /her brother, father and grandfather, Charles), would be a boy or a girl, with bets being placed on several potential options for the child's name.
The baby was born nine days past Middleton's due date in what had been dubbed "The Great Kate Wait." Famed bookmakers William Hill had placed the highest betting odds on big payouts that the royal baby would be a girl named Alice, born on April 21, which happens to also be Queen Elizabeth II's 89th birthday.
In addition to Alice, other popular names for a girl were runners-up Elizabeth, Charlotte and Victoria, in addition to James and Arthur if it were another boy. No name has officially been released yet.
In addition, fans of the royal family who are already camping outside of St. Mary's hospital in London were also ardently hoping that if the royal family had a little girl, that they would honor Prince William's late mother, Princess Diana, by giving their child her name as an option to pair with the child's first name.
Middleton and Prince William married in 2011. They welcomed their first-born, Prince George Alexander Louis, on July 22, 2013.
Much congratulations to the Royal Family on their newest addition!
