The United States will lose the expertise of Kiefer Sutherland when the sun rises on Fox's 24 reboot. It's truly a new day.

"Obviously we would love to have Kiefer [Sutherland] and we went to him first," Fox's Gary Newman informed Entertainment Weekly. "It isn't something he wants to do at this point, but he encouraged us to continue and look for a way to bring the show back."

Sutherland returned for the anglophile dream version of the counter terrorism series last year, and it seems the miniseries will serve as his last hurrah. Fans shouldn't expect to see any of Bauer's old allies, either. Penned by Manny Coto and Evan Katz, the impending script could be an entirely fresh slate.

"Honestly I don't know whether we'll see any old characters or not," Newman explained. "It would not surprise me if it's a total reset in terms of the characters."
