Caspere's Murderer Is...

It appears three words can really sum up how things ended on the season 2 finale of True Detective.

(Almost) everyone died.

Woodrugh Is Killed

The 90-minute conclusion to the troubled second season saw nearly all of the good guys left-specifically, Ray Velcoro (Colin Farrell) and Frank Semyon (Vince Vaughn)--die in the final moments, with Ray the victim of a massive shoot-out led by Burris (James Frain) and Frank getting stabbed in a scuffle with gangsters he screwed over when he burned down the clubs and bleeding out in the desert.

And while some of the bad guys died too (Burris and Tony Chessani were really the only ones to walk away unscathed), it meant the show's only lead character to walk away alive was Bezzerides (Rachel McAdams), who wound up having a BABY with Velcoro that she conceived during their one night in a motel together. She was joined in her new life on the run by Jordan (Kelly Reilly), Frank's wife.
