Agents of SHIELD is preparing to throw viewers a major curve when they reveal where Gemma Simmons spent her summer hiatus.

Swallowed up by the enigmatic Kree stone during the season 2 finale, the mild mannered scientist will remain lost in space as Agents of SHIELD travels through a several month time jump. When all hope appears to be lost, however, Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) will reappear from someplace Henstridge did not think the ABC series would go.

"It's so much bigger than I thought it would be," Henstridge teased, according to Zap2It. "What it is, I thought about it and was like, 'How would they do that? How would they film that?' I just dismissed everything in the realm of this idea. It's very cool. It's very cool."

No matter where the biochem genius is, Fitz (Iain DeCaestecker) will be determined to find her even after the rest of Coulson's (Clark Gregg) team has written her off as dead. Whether or not it will be his research that cracks the stone, well, that remains unknown.

"It's Fitz's mission to get Simmons back," Henstridge teased. "It's a solo mission. What happened was so crazy and there was no trace of her, that what do you do?"
