Agents of SHIELD has lumped together two particularly disparate characters to lead Secret Warriors, and now we know why.

'Agents Of SHIELD' Season 3: Where Exactly Is Simmons? The Answer Is 'So Much Bigger' Than You Thought

Daisy (Chloe Bennet) and Mack (Henry Simmons) are the ying to each other's yangs. One is the literal embodiment of everything alien while the other is determined to keep extraterrestrial tech at arms length. Together, the pair will make up the Mulder and Scully of Coulson's (Clark Gregg) latest project.

"[Coulson has selected] the person who's skeptical of alien stuff and the person who has it inside of her," executive producer Jed Whedon told Entertainment Weekly.

Perhaps Mack can keep Daisy from running headfirst into trouble. It's a feat only May (Ming-Na Wen) has managed to marginally achieve, but Mack may be just the man for the job. He knows first hand the incredible danger that can come from meddling with the unknown.

"Mack's always been a bit of a skeptic, so him teamed with Daisy's very interesting because Daisy's very gung-ho and gives it a try and very ballsy," Elizabeth Henstridge (Simmons) noted, according to Zap2It. "So their dynamic is really fun. They've got very fun scenes together. They play off each other very well."

See the two unite when Agents of SHIELD returns to ABC on Sept. 29.
