Peta Murgatroyd will no longer be a pro in the upcoming season of ABC's Dancing With the Stars, but why?

Murgatroyd received a heartbreaking email recently from her orthopedic surgeon. The doctor told the beloved DWTS pro that she required surgery that will result in her sitting out the next six to eight weeks.
The dancer was rehearsing with singer Andy Grammer, who was supposed to be her upcoming celebrity partner, but she discovered something was wrong when she put on high heels.

"I wanted to check it out properly and make sure I was good to go for the season," Murgatroyd said, in a new People report. "I got my MRI results back and it was a really bad diagnosis. It showed I had 4 torn ligaments and a floating piece of bone at the back of my ankle. My doctor said I needed surgery and I knew I needed to put my health first if I want to keep dancing on the show into my 30s."
Obviously the news is a devastating blow to Murgatroyd, but she has every intention of being involved with Grammer and his new partner as an adviser.
"I'm just looking forward to being back on my feet as soon as possible and being a part of the show again," she said. "I'm so in love with the show and I'm a very competitive person. It's really sad. It's super frustrating but I'm going to fine and I'm going to be back in week eight or nine of the show."
Murgatroyd has already grown close with Grammer, admitting it was tough to break the news to him.
"It was awful telling Andy. He had specifically asked to be partnered with me and I felt like I was letting him down," she said. "But he understood and has been a great guy about it."
Grammer's new partner will be announced live on ABC's Good Morning America Wednesday, along with the rest of the celebs and pros.
Dancing With the Stars season 21 premieres Monday, Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
