A lot of change is coming to NCIS this season as the team's dynamics shift, especially since Gibbs' (Mark Harmon) injuries cause a domino effect.

Will Cote de Pablo Return To 'NCIS' For A Guest Spot During Season 13?

Gibbs' injuries and his upcoming life-saving surgery will cause the rest of the NCIS team to react in many ways.

It has been made clear that Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) will kind of take over the role of boss of the team while Gibbs undergoes his surgery and initially recuperates. But with Tony taking the leadership role it will cause some friction between him and Gibbs.

Which British Actress Was Recently On Set Of 'NCIS' For Its Latest Season?

TV Fanatic reported last Wednesday straight from showrunner Gary Glasberg how Eleanor "Ellie" Bishop (Emily Wickersham), Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) and the others will be heading into this new season.

Glasberg dished that McGee will continue to mature as an agent aside from focusing on his relationship with Delilah Fielding (Margo Harshman).

"He will be challenged as Tony and Gibbs continue to be challenged," Glasberg added.

Bishop will face more romantic struggles with her NSA attorney husband Jake Malloy (Jamie Bamber). They've hit bumps previously since Jake first appeared last season and it looks like they'll continue to hit bumps.

Glasberg teased Bishop will have "a tremendous arc coming up where her marriage continues to be tested and challenged in ways as her husband remains with the NSA and she's with NCIS."

It's "going to take a huge toll on her and will manifest itself in a bunch of ways that will be significant all the way through the holidays and beyond" the showrunner further dished.

Others will also deal with what happened to Gibbs in their own ways.

"Everyone is affected by those two gun shots at the end of last season and it's a matter of how they internalize what's happened, how they take on what's happened and how it's changed everyone," Glasberg concluded.

NCIS returns to CBS on Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. ET.
