No one expected the Starz series to follow Diana Gadaldon's novels word for word, but after demonstrating that they could, viewers will be surprised to see deviations, both major and minor, when Jamie and Claire return for season 2.
Originally believed to only feature the events of Dragonfly in Amber, Outlander season 2 will shuffle the cards and bring in events from book 4, Drums of Autumn. The change will come in the form of Claire and Jamie's daughter Brianna, who will hp through time two books before she is supposed to.
'Outlander' Season 2: Should 'Voyager' Be Split In Half? EP Ron Moore Explains
"Brianna has secretly followed her mother back in time to find the father she never met and the family she never knew," reads the character's casting call, according to TV Line.
So why has Moore and Co. decided to scramble the time line? The EP has yet to comment on the matter, but the change was likely implemented for the sake of clarity.
"Book 2 is just a more complex book. It's laid out very differently, as a result it took more wrangling to try to figure out how to translate this particular story into our season," Moore explained to Entertainment Weekly. "There were more complications, there were more characters, there were more shifting points of view. It was a bigger task."
