Where are the 100's Grounders?

'The 100' Season 3: 'Mass Death' & 'Broken Promises'; Jason Rothenberg Doles Out Terrifying Teasers

The post-apocalyptic drama crash-landed the Sky People straight into the heart of a decades old conflict, and viewers will learn much, much more about the Earth's fiercest survivors when season 3 begins.

In the meantime, however, we've rounded up a few tidbits regarding the 12 clans. Now that Mount Weather is no longer a threat, these nations will most likely spend the spring run having rather forcefully interactions.

Where (geographically) are the Clans?

Viewers know the Trikru is centered around the Washington DC area, but the locations of the Ice Nation and the Boat People are currently unknown.

"The other Clans are, for the time being, a mystery," writer Aaron Ginsburg informed viewers. "I guess what I'm saying is this: the 12 Clans are in one region of our country, but as for how close they are... I wouldn't want to walk between them. Not without some REALLY good shoes.

Viewers will encounter a map of the world in episode 1, but series creator Jason Rothenberg did not specify whether this map would be current or from 97 years ago.

How do the Clans differ?

One of the only times viewers see multiple clans at once is during the season 2 meeting at Ton DC. While it is hard to differentiate between the mass of Grounders, Ginsburg promises that there are differences.

"All of the clans have names (though we have not revealed what they are yet...) and they are based out of different areas in our world," the writer explained. "As a result, you can assume they don't all dress alike (though all of their wardrobes would come from what they can find, adapt and make on their own)."

Some have speculated that the war paint will differ by clan, and Rothenberg has confirmed that season 3 will explain the meaning of the Grounders' tattoos.

Where is Polis?

Polis is the Grounder capital, but other than its name, Clarke and the Sky People know nothing of this city.

Viewers will have to weather the hiatus to find out more. Neither Rothenberg nor the series' writers is doling out hints on this front.

"No. No one will figure this one out," Rothenberg tweeted, informing viewers that Annapolis is defiantly not someplace that Polis takes it's name from.
