Despite going into the 2015 Emmys with eight major nominations, FX's American Horror Story: Freak Show walked away empty-handed last night.

These Were The 5 Most Emotional Moments At The Emmys

With nominations for Jessica Lange, Denis O'Hare, Finn Wittrock, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates and Sarah Paulson you would think American Horror Story could've gotten at least one win, but this was not to be. The Television Academy completely ignored the horror anthology's fourth season, opting for other shows and performances instead.

HBO's Olive Kitteridge dominated the night in the Limited Series/Movie categories, completely sweeping every eligible category except Supporting Actress. Lange lost to Frances McDormand (Olive Kitteridge), O'Hare and Wittrock lost to Bill Murray (Olive Kitteridge) and Bassett, Bates and Paulson lost to Regina King (ABC's American Crime).

Paulson was thought to be the frontrunner going into Sunday night's Emmys considering her bold performance(s) as conjoined twins Bette and Dot Tattler.

This is the first season of American Horror Story to not receive any acting wins. Lange won for Murder House, James Cromwell won for Asylum and Lange and Bates won for Coven.

So why did the Emmys choose to ignore AHS this year? The season had very mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike, so maybe voters felt similar mixed feelings.

It will be interesting to see how American Horror Story does next year with their latest season, titled Hotel. This season features pop superstar Lady Gaga in a major role. Will Gaga and her co-stars receive nominations at next year's Emmys? Only time will tell.

American Horror Story: Hotel premieres Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
