‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 7 Spoilers: Damon Keeping Bonnie Alive ‘Is A Very, Very Layered & Nuanced Dynamic’ [VIDEO]
It is no surprise that Elena (Nina Dobrev) is gone in some sense on The Vampire Diaries at the moment since she is under a spell that is connected to Bonnie (Kat Graham).
Will Damon & Stefan Torture Lily In New 'Vampire Diaries' Season?
Thanks to this spell, Bonnie and Damon's (Ian Somerhalder) relationship has shifted a bit more heading into the seventh season.
Since the beginning of TVD, Bonnie and Damon have not always been the best of friends, but they have become more understanding of each other in later seasons, especially last season as they both lost Elena.
Just Jared Jr. recently chatted with the two TVD stars about their dynamic moving forward.
"Every time he looks at Bonnie, he only sees not Elena," Somerhalder shared, letting light shine on the bit of resentment that lingers.
"He does love her and it's an unfortunate situation that they find themselves in because it's that thing of every time he looks at her, 'Oh, if I just push her off the side of this building, I'd get Elena back,'" Somerhalder further divulged.
He went on to describe his character's relationship with Bonnie as a "volley between 'I love this woman as a friend, but if something happens to her, I get my girl back.'"
Damon knows that would disappoint Elena though if she suddenly came back and it was only a year or so since she was put under the spell.
"Keeping her alive is a very, very layered and nuanced dynamic between Bonnie and Damon. He adores her and doesn't want anything to happen to her," the actor added, which his costar's character understands and appreciates.
"I think they are trying to help each other cope," Graham said.
"They both feel the same way and they both lost the same person that meant the most to both of them. So it's interesting to watch how they both deal and how Bonnie kind of checks him," Graham shared.
The series returns to The CW in the fall for season 7 on Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. ET.
