Doctor Who will get the YA treatment in 2016.

'Supernatural' Season 11 Premiere: So. Much. Death. New Promo Will Give You The Chills

Acclaimed author Patrick Ness will join the Who-verse when the BBC debuts the franchises' latest spinoff, Class.

Doctor Who is no stranger to the spinoff world. With three iterations of Torchwood, two Sarah Jane adventures, and two animated series under its belt, Doctor Who will soon bring monsters to the already terrifying world of high school.

"I can't wait for people to meet the heroes of Class, to meet the all-new villains and aliens, to remember that the horrors of the darkest corners of existence are just about on par with having to pass your A-levels," Ness teased, according to the BBC.

Class will mark Ness' screen writing debut. That's not to say the author is lacking in experience - the award-winning scribe has pulled in two Carnegie Medals for his work on A Monster Calls and his Chaos Walking series.

Perhaps Ness can re-infuse time and space with the well-rounded characters that have been missing from Steven Moffat's flagship.

Class will film in and around Cardiff next year.
