'Deception' Premiere, Meagan Good NBC Drama Debuts Jan. 7 (WATCH PREVIEW VIDEO)
NBC will debut its new drama series "Deception," about a detective who seeks to uncover a rich family's dirty secrets, on Monday, Jan. 7.
An expose about wealthy and secretive families has been a fan favorite since the 1980s, with the television series "Dallas" about the Ewing family. The concept is such a hit that 'Dallas" was revived in 2012. With a similar story line, "Revenge" starring Emily VanCamp - about a woman who goes undercover as she seeks revenge to bring down a wealthy family based in the Hamptons - is currently in its second season on ABC.
Now NBC has come out with a drama about the wealthy and corrupt, and according to reviews from several media news outlets, the new series doesn't disappoint.
"Deception" stars Meagan Good as Joanna Locastro, a detective using her skills as a spy to infiltrate the wealthy Bower family, who makes their billions in the pharmaceuticals industry.
Locastro practically grew up with the Bowers; her mother was the family's maid for many years. As a child she befriended Vivian, the family matriarch's granddaughter who dies from a drug overdose in the show's premiere episode. When Locatsro attends Vivian's funeral, the Bower family automatically accepts her back into the family. Locastro uses her access to uncover clues about her childhood pal's mysterious death. Every week she learns more about the family secrets while reconnecting with an ex-boyfriend to help solve Vivian's murder.
Victor Garber ("Alias") plays the family's matriarch. Tate Donovan ("Damages") plays his son Edward, Katherine LaNasa ("Alfie") plays Edward's wife Sofia and Ella Rae Peck ("Gossip Girl") plays their dead daughter Vivian.
"Deception" is executive-produced by Liz Heldens ("Friday Night Lights") and directed by Peter Horton ("Grey's Anatomy," "Dirty Sexy Money").
Good has appeared in countless films including 2012's hit romantic comedy "Act Like a Lady But Think Like A Man," a movie based on the successful book by Steve Harvey. The book topped The New York Times' bestsellers list for over a year.
Good married film executive DeVon Franklin in Malibu in June of 2012. The couple met on the set of "Jumping the Broom," a film Franklin co-produced in which Good appeared in alongside her "Deception" co-star Laz Alonso. Good has appeared in music videos for artists such as 50 Cent and Will Smith, and recently starred in season five of "Californication" as sultry R&B chanteuse Kali, girlfriend to rapper Samurai.
