'The Big Bang Theory' Returns to Record Breaking Numbers; 'Star Trek' Episode Details
The first episode of CBS's "The Big Bang Theory" for 2013 earned record breaking viewership numbers for previous episodes of the show and fans of the sitcom are anticipating this week's "Star Trek" episode.
Entertainment Weekly reports that this week's episode features the four friends Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Sheldon (Jim Parsons), Howard (Simon Helberg), and Raj (Kunal Nayyar) in costumes resembling characters from "Star Trek: The Next Generation."
The group of friends head to a comic-book convention but get stranded when Leonard's car is stolen.
The show has a close relationship with other actors who were previously on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" with reoccurring actor Will Wheaton who played Wesley Crusher in the science fiction series. Other guest stars from the show include actor Brent Spiner and LeVar Burton who played Data and Lt. Commander Geordi Laforge respectively.
"I'm really looking forward to this episode. Both plots look epic," one user named MR wrote on Entertainment Weekly's message board.
"The costumes on this show are always so great. Can't wait to see it :)" raved user Alexisrg7.
The hit sitcom returned after a three week hiatus with Thursday's show titled "The Egg Salad Equivalency" which brought in a total of 19.25 million viewers.
The impressive recent Nielsen numbers listed a rating of 6.1 in the 18-49-year-old demographic, which is the key audience for advertisers, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This means the show is not just a popular show, but popular with the right demographics for good business.
The show's returning numbers are closely matched to the 20 million viewers that were recorded watching NBC's hit "Friends."
With impressive ratings coming on a consistent basis, "The Big Bang Theory" is quickly turning into the new "Friends."
While comparing the two shows it should be pointed out that CBS's program is currently in the middle of its sixth season and bringing in the viewership of NBC's hit when it was closer to its eighth season, according to Yahoo News.
"The Big Bang Theory" premiered in 2007 and follows the lives of four geeky guys and a hot neighbor girl next door.
"The Big Bang Theory" was created by Chuck Lorre who also helms CBS's other popular sitcom "Two And a Half Men."
