TV Cancellation Causes Uproar From Fans Over Last Two Episodes of Thai Drama 'Neua Mek 2'
Fans of the television series "Neua Mek 2" in Thailand are outraged over the show's cancellation and are demanding that the final episodes of the season be aired.
The decision to pull the show was made by Channel 3 in Thailand on Friday who pulled the dramatic soap opera mini-series off the air before its final episodes could be broadcast.
The series had two two-hour final episodes that were supposed to air on Friday and Saturday, but fans tuned in to see their beloved show was gone.
The apparent reason for the abrupt cancellation was that the edgy series was not appropriate for the channel.
"Neua Mek 2" began on Dec. 14 airing three episodes a week. The show featured a Thai prime minister and his corrupt deputy dealing with taboo topics such as black magic.
According to The Bangkok Post, the website for Channel 3 was hacked on Monday by supposed fans of the show that put a sprawling message on the homepage which read "Where is my Nua Mek?"
The station also has pressure to air the blocked programs from The Thai Constitution Protection Association who are also looking into having Channel 3's broadcast concessions revoked if the demands are not met within a week.
"It hurts the viewers' feelings and has infringed on the rights of Thai consumers," said Srisuwan Janya, secretary-general of the association, according to The Huffington Post. "They have the constitutional right to watch it until the end."
The Associated Press reported that Channel 3 feared it was in violation of Section 37 of the Broadcast and Telecommunications Operations Act. The section states that "content that seeks to overthrow the constitutional monarchy, threatens national security or morality, or constitutes profanity or causes severe harm to people's mental or physical health" is prohibited.
