Gaga, who is in the midst of her major television acting debut in FX's American Horror Story: Hotel, spoke with E! News about her costume choices, both on the show and in her real life.
The pop superstar, known for wearing such outfits as a meat dress and a coat made out of mini Kermit the Frogs, said she doesn't just pick out the craziest costume.
"When I go in and I see a rack, something that people probably don't think about me...They think I just go in there and I put on whatever's crazy [laughs], which is fine. But I don't do that," she said. "I go in with my script and I'm like, 'OK, where are we? We're getting ready to go out hunting. OK, I definitely need my hunting glove, and I definitely would wear my hair up because I don't want to get blood in my hair.' There's a whole process of things. I'll say, 'Why would she be wearing a jacket now? She's not going out. Or she would be wearing a dressing gown because she's home with the kids. Or she would want to assert to Chloë Sevigny her maternal side to her in this scene. She's wearing black. I want to wear white.'"
Gaga gushed over the lush costume design present on American Horror Story, particularly for her character, The Countess.
"It's amazing. It's exciting. There are archives from beyond from designers," she said. "Things that are being resurrected. Things that are being really pushed."
Based on the first episode, it's clear that The Countess is obsessed with fashion and art so we can't wait to see what costumes she'll come out with in the weeks to come.
American Horror Story: Hotel airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
