Alexa PenaVega and Derek Hough's perfect dance on Monday night's episode of ABC's Dancing With the Stars almost went horribly wrong.

PenaVega and Hough were paired up together for Switch Up Week and while it's usually a stumbling block for celebs, she totally thrived. They danced a tango to Bastille's "Pompeii" and scored a perfect 40 out of 40 from the judges.

But in a video diary from Hough posted on Entertainment Weekly, he reveals that the rehearsal wasn't exactly a good sign of things to come.

"Dress rehearsal didn't go very well," Hough admitted. "We kind of messed up a little bit, but I was talking to Alexa and hopefully she can have confidence. She got a little bit nervous, she got a little bit her head and forgot the steps and I really want her to do well."

Luckily it all came together beautifully as PenaVega had the honor of nabbing the first perfect score of season 21.

PenaVega will now go back to working with her original partner, Mark Ballas, from here on out. Ballas may have to step up his game a bit now that PenaVega has a taste for what it's like to get a perfect score. But as we've seen in the past, Ballas is one of the more creative pros in the whole competition, so another perfect score may be right around the corner.

Dancing With the Stars airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
