Amy Schumer may have an irreverent quality that's allowed her to blossom into one of today's most popular comedians, but she also has a serious side.

Could Amy Schumer Receive An Emmy Nomination For Her Recent 'SNL' Appearance?

Schumer, who skyrocketed to fame in 2015 with the popularity of her Comedy Central sketch show Inside Amy Schumer and her successful summer movie Trainwreck, sat down with The Today Show recently. The comedian and actress opened up about her own body issues and how they inform her career.

"It's an emotional thing," she admitted, of her body image. "It's been a struggle for me my whole life, and especially just being in the entertainment industry. Standing on a stage in front of people, I can't perform my best or be confident if I'm not sure - if I'm pulling at something [I'm wearing]. And sometimes I would just want to throw in the towel and be like, 'I'm not gonna go do standup tonight.'"

Schumer also admitted that she and her sister "have always dressed badly" but upon meeting stylist Lessa Evans on the Trainwreck set, she was able to dissuade her insecurities.

"Leesa had given me this gift of showing me how to dress and feel good," Schemer explained. "And she didn't have to do this, she just did. She shopped for my sister also, and seeing my little sister wearing a little blazer and a shirt and looking just like a strong, beautiful woman, it was ... to see this person I care the most about being given those tools was really moving for me."

This has definitely been the year of Schumer, who just won an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series for Inside Amy Schumer over such stalwarts as NBC's Saturday Night Live. She also just hosted SNL and will headline her first HBO comedy special to air on Saturyda.

At the end of the day, Schumer said that all she wants to do is "make everybody laugh and feel better, which is my goal across the board with everything."

Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo airs Saturday, Oct. 17 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.
