Mortal Instrument fans should brace for changes when Shadowhunters makes its debut.

'Shadowhunters' TV Show: That's A Wrap! Go Behind The Scenes Of The Finale Day Of Filming

It's a fear every book lover has when their favorite stories find their way to television - how corrupted will the text become as writers adapt it for the screen? Shadowhunters is set to bring in some definite changes, but not to the point that viewers will want to throw their Cassandra Clare tomes at their televisions.

"The most challenging part of doing something that has this passionate a fan base is delivering what they're hoping for and being true to the characters and really honoring Cassandra's work, BUT also delivering some surprises. We're sort of hoping that the fans will go, 'Wait a minute, that didn't happen in the book! Oh...I see where they're going with that,' and it ends up where I'm dreaming it would end up," showrunner Ed Decter explained at New York Comic Con, according to TMI Source.

Mostly, this will include exploring the characters in ways that the books didn't have a chance to. Instead of wiping out key moments a la the Harry Potter films, Shadowhunters will add more material.

"It's using Cassandra's characters maybe in a little bit different combination then you had seen them but ultimately delivering some of the big moments that everyone's really expecting," Decter said.
