The season 4 finale put the kibosh on Finch's (Michael Emerson) brainchild, but the software engineer isn't ready to let go. When season 5 eventually premieres, Harold and Root (Amy Acker) will put their heads together to get the team back on track.
Despite their collaboration, the two will lock horns over a potential upgrade.
"What's great fun about the early episodes is watching the two of them argue about, if they can adjust The Machine's secret formula, should they?" executive producer Jonah Nolan said, according to TV Line. "Given that the stakes are higher and time is running out for them, what are the ethics in changing your strategy?"
Unsurprisingly, it will be Root who wants to buck the status quo. Will Finch ultimately cave or will Acker's character find a way to work around him?
