Grey's Anatomy's current season is faring well despite the tragic loss of Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) last season.

Kevin McKidd Would 'Introduce A Long-Running Villainous Character' To 'Grey's Anatomy' If He Were In Shonda Rhimes' Shoes!

Fan favorite characters are still stirring plenty of drama at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. There have been new additions, too, like Dr. Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson).

Henderson's casting came shortly after Demspey's departure from the series; speculation swirled about whether his role would be seen as the new McDreamy, the McDreamy replacement or if he would pave his own way.

While candidly speaking with TVLine, the actor dished he would never replace McDreamy - nor would he want to do that.

"What Patrick Dempsey did on the show, and what his character represented, is something that can never be replaced," he explained, adding, "The idea of me replacing McDreamy - or being the new McDreamy - is unrealistic, and not something that I would want to do as an actor. I'm my own person and my own actor and what I do is my thing. And what Patrick does is his thing; and he did it brilliantly."

Henderson views his own dreamy doctor character as "an addition to an existing show."

He also may have teased that a romance between his character and Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) could indeed happen.

"Obviously it's a possibility," he noted, while explaining, "It's just as viable that I end up with anyone on the show."

He is well aware that if a romance between these two definitely develops "there would be some strong feelings, positive and negative" from loyal viewers.

Grey's Anatomy airs on ABC on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET.
