The holidays are just around the corner, and with the boughs of holly and twinkling lights comes the annual Doctor Who Christmas special!

This year, viewers will be able to recover from Clara's (Jenna Coleman) departure with a special visit from River Song (Alex Kingston). Unseen since "The Name of the Doctor," Amy Pond's daughter will meet the Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi) for the first time in "The Husbands of River Song."

We certainly hope the time traveler's wife is counting the Doc's 13 iterations "husbands," or else there may be a little trouble in the TARDIS. Check out the episode summary below:

"It's Christmas Day on a remote human colony and the Doctor is hiding from carols and comedy antlers. But when the Time Lord's help is requested he finds himself recruited into River Song's squad and hurled into a fast and frantic chase across the galaxy! King Hydroflax (Greg Davies) is furious and his giant robot bodyguard is out-of-control and coming for them all! Will Nardole (Matt Lucas) survive? And when will River work out who the Doctor is?"

If you're hoping Twelve and River will take their witty banter up a notch, you're in luck.

"Yes, there is [a chance for romance]," Capaldi said. "I'm trying not to give it away. My Doctor is different from the Doctors who were there when Alex first arrived. This Doctor's different from that. It's a different dynamic."
