ABC denied rumors of Diane Sawyer retiring from her lead anchor position with the network because of health issues.

The Daily News reported on Tuesday that Sawyer, the 67- year-old current anchor of ABC's "World News," talked with many close friends about stepping down due to health issues with her mother.

"She has discussed with a few close friends and some people at ABC that she is seriously considering retiring," said an insider. "She said she'll be ready to hang it up not long down the road. She loves work and what she does and has endless energy, but she's overwhelmed with personal problems and she is thinking about leaving to take care of her family."

While an ABC source told the Daily News there is "no diagnosis" on Sawyer's mom, the anchor has been spending all her free time to care of her mother.

"Diane has been going home for long weekends for years every couple of weeks, and that has not been new," the source said. "She doesn't have any plans to be taking off any time [from visiting]."

However, Sawyer's rep, Jeffrey Schneider, said the news anchor has no plans of leaving ABC.

"That is not true," Schneider told "Entertainment Tonight" in a statement. "And had the Daily News actually asked us if Diane was considering retiring we would have told them yesterday that it wasn't true."

Sawyer has worked at ABC for almost 25 years, including a long tenure co-anchoring "Good Morning America." She was criticized for her recent 2012 election coverage, which set off a Twitter frenzy after viewers claimed Sawyer was drunk and her behavior was unusual - she slurred, had slow speech and often laughed hysterically.

Meanwhile, Chris Cuomo, a former colleague of Sawyer's, signed on to host a new morning show with CNN.
