Roberts was originally expected to show up in the final episodes of American Horror Story: Hotel, the anthology series' current fifth season. But with her time devoted to Fox's Scream Queens, she apparently won't be appearing on the series this year after all.
The actress spoke with Yahoo recently about not being able to make it work.
"I'm sad about it. We tried to make it work, but I'm leaving town to go do a movie and they're shooting the last two episodes right now, so Ryan [Murphy] and I said next season we'll do something amazing and devilish," Roberts said. "I love this season, I watch most of it with my eyes closed, but I think I get the gist. I love Lady Gaga so much, so I was like, 'Next season I want to work with Lady Gaga for sure.'"
Roberts has previously appeared on two seasons of American Horror Story. In season 3, Coven, the actress played delightfully witchy Madison Montgomery. Then in season 4, Freak Show, she played Maggie Esmerelda, a con artist posing as a fortune teller.
Based on Roberts' regarding "next season", it looks like she may be getting ready to star in season 6. There has been speculation that Gaga will return for another season as well, as suggested by Roberts comment on wanting to work with her.
American Horror Story: Hotel airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
