Agents of SHIELD's Coulson is in for the surprise of a lifetime.

'Agents Of SHIELD' Season 3: Is The Real Ward Gone For Good? Brett Dalton Has The Answer

Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) is dead, but his body has escaped the clutches of mortality. Thanks to Hydra's prized Inhuman, Dalton's time in the MCU is far from over. While we know Ward isn't lying dead halfway across the universe, Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Co. are not yet privy to that shocking reveal.

As far as Gregg knows, it will be sometime before SHIELD learns the truth.

"It's not something we've arrived at yet [in filming], but it seems to be a pretty astonishing moment that probably lies in our future," the actor informed TV Line.

Thanks to that tidbit, it sounds like viewers won't get to see the highly anticipated reunion for several episodes. To make matters worse, Agents of SHIELD used "Maveth" to springboard the series' into a three-month hiatus. At least we will have Agent Carter to keep our minds occupied in the interim.

One this is for sure - Dalton will be playing a very different character when Zephyr One soars back into the picture this March.

"You'll have to see exactly how that plays out in March, but what we do see is that the Ward we've grown to know and love, I hope, is no longer and there's a different person," Dalton told E! Online. "A Ward 2.0."

Agents of SHIELD airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
