Deeks' bears the onus of guilt on NCIS: Los Angeles, and it is a burden he would like to lessen.
The LAPD detective found himself lying to everyone around him during "Internal Affairs," but his flippant answers weren't wasted on Hetty (Linda Hunt). It turns out Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) did kill his former partner, albeit to save another's life, and now the NCIS sage has helped him cover it up for good. Unfortunately for Marty, now that his big secret has been disturbed, it is not something he can easily slough off.
"The first thing he wants to do is tell Kensi," Olsen told TV Guide. "His relationship to Kensi is too important. So at some point, it's going to be overwhelming. He's going to have to tell her. ... He doesn't have to carry this [secret] anymore."

Problem is, Deeks had a chance to come clean and he didn't. Now, not only did he murder someone, but he also compounded the problem by keeping the truth from his girlfriend/partner. Deeks, of course, had a good reason for his actions.
"I would say that's more of a reflection, not of their relationship, but of how Deeks values himself," Olsen explained. "That's what the fear is. If he really valued himself in the relationship he wouldn't be afraid to tell her this out of some sort of irrational fear that he would lose her."
