After a short hiatus, AMC's hit zombie show The Walking Dead will continue its third season with an all-new episode on Sunday titled Suicide King.

Outgoing show runner Glen Mazzara recently came clean on what series loyalists can expect moving forward from the midseason finale, which left off with a slew of unanswered questions.

The most recent installment of the popular program had Merle (Michael Rooker) and Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) circled by an angry town of Woodbury residents along with The Governor (David Morrissey), who accused his one-time henchman Merle of treason.

On Monday, Mazzara spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the tension and conflicting position Daryl finds himself in.

"Daryl has spent the last year with Rick and this group, and he has worked very hard to wrestle his past demons and to become a very, very valuable member of Rick's band," he said.

"Now he'll have to make some choices after discovering that his brother is alive and his brother is on the opposing side. Daryl is caught in the middle and has to make choices. Can he try to bring everyone together, or does he pick a side, or does he have to go up against Rick in some way? I think it's a very interesting arc."

Meanwhile, the group's current leader Rick (Andrew Lincoln) is in the midst of dealing with the mental stress of his wife Lori's death, hearing imaginary phone calls and also hallucinating.

"Rick's mental state is very fragile at a time when the group needs him to be on his A-game. And he's emotionally compromised," Mazzara said. "His sanity is questioned and this becomes a major personal crisis not only for Rick, but for his entire group."

A brand new group of survivors led by Tyrese (Chad Coleman) also just made their way to the group's prison location.

The Walking Dead is set to return on Sunday, Feb. 10, at 9 p.m. ET on the AMC network.
