FX may have cut the episode order for FX's American Horror Story: Hotel.

Emma Roberts Reveals Why She Wasn't On 'American Horror Story' This Season

FX sent out a press release for episode 12 of American Horror Story: Hotel, which says it is the season finale. Curiously, the past three seasons have all had 13 episodes and Hotel was expected to have 13 as well.

So did FX decide to cut an episode? Did star Lady Gaga's busy schedule force them to end the season early?

It is also entirely possible that FX noticed the declining ratings of Hotel. The season premiered with 5.81 million viewers, which has whittled down to just 2.14 million for the latest episode. Ratings have mostly dropped with every episode this season and have stayed in the 2-3 million viewer range, which is even more significant considering Coven and Freak Show barely ever dipped below 3 million viewers.

FX has not made any announcement on why this season will only have 12 episodes.

Regardless, episode 12 is titled Be Our Guest and the synopsis reads as follows:

"Iris [Kathy Bates] and Liz [Denis O'Hare] oversee a new era at the Cortez. John [Wes Bentley] and Alex [Chloë Sevigny] struggle to adapt to life outside the hotel."

In more positive news, Hotel is coming off a positive week for awards. Gaga was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance as The Countess, as was the show. Then, the Critics' Choice nominated Bentley, Bates and Sarah Paulson this week for their awards.

American Horror Story: Hotel airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
