Ragnar's (Travis Fimmel) adventures have taken viewers from Paris to Wessex, but as season 4 begins, the grievously ill king will make his way make to Kattegat once more. Never one to sit idle, Ragnar will quickly fill his sails with a westerly wind and dive headfirst into the series longest season ever.

Where once there were 16 episodes, 20 now stand, Vikings was already contracted for a supersized run, but as of Thursday, the medieval drama was granted a back four. Starting on Feb. 18, Vikings will air 10 straight episodes before breaking for midseason.

"Season three culminated with the extraordinary battle in Paris, where Ragnar seized victory from the jaws of defeat - but still returns to Kattegat dangerously ill. Thoughts of his death galvanize the forces who seek to succeed him as king, including his wife Queen Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) and his oldest son, Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig)," the History Chanel teased.

Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick), meanwhile will have to deal with Kalf (Ben Robson) while Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård) pays dearly for the murder of Athelstan. Back in France, Rollo (Clive Standen) will attempt to make a new life.
