They were preparing for their new chance at a happy life together, but the appearance of their worst enemy and her claims she is dying could put things on hold for Steve (Stephen Nichols) and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) on Days of Our Lives.

A Brainwashed Chad Breaks Up With Abigail

The two were reunited, thanks to the scheme Ava (Tamara Braun) seems to have cooked up with their son Joey (James Lastovic), but instead of settling in and truly giving their family another chance to be together and enjoy the holidays, their reunion has been interrupted by Ava appearing at their doorstep with news she is dying from leukemia.

Considering their history with Ava--who was one time obsessed with Steve and wound up kidnapping him, Kayla, Bo and Hope (Kristian Alfonso), and also killing Kayla's father in a plane accident--the two will have a hard time believing her claims. They will start trying to investigate to see if she's being sincere or just trying to pull another con on them.

Kayla's Worst Nightmare Comes True When She Comes Face-To-Face With Ava

Their suspicions may be more heightened if Joey sees Ava in the house and reveals that she was the one who gave him his orders to bring his parents back together. And though such a thing would add credence to Ava's claims that she is sick and just trying to right some of the wrongs she'd made, it will still put added stress on the recently reunited couple's plans.

Days of Our Lives airs Monday-Friday at 1 p.m. on NBC.
