CBS's massively popular sitcom The Big Bang Theory may be ending sooner rather than later.

'The Big Bang Theory' Star Jim Parsons Hoping To Get 'Friends' Actress To Guest Star

The Big Bang Theory is currently in its ninth season on the air, with a 10th season already guaranteed by CBS. But season 10 might be the end of the road for Sheldon (Jim Parsons), Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and company.

Big Bang showrunner Steve Molaro spoke with The Hollywood Reporter recently and seemed to suggest that season 10 as the final season might be the tentative plan.

"I think so. I can't speak to the future or on behalf of the cast or where we'll be then but it's certainly possible that it could go past that," Molaro said, of season 10 being the end. "The reality is that maybe season 10 is the ending point. The real answer is I don't know and all I can do right now is go episode to episode and try to make each one the best that we can. There's still so many episodes to go. Even if hypothetically season 10 was the end, I wouldn't be focusing on that yet. That seems like something that would be dealt with way down the line."

The sitcom has been a huge cash cow for CBS almost from the beginning. It is still the no. 1 most watched sitcom on television and with the show's reruns airing in syndication on a daily basis, it's safe to say letting go of The Big Bang Theory won't be easy for the network. However, even the most popular sitcoms have to end at some point, and a 10-season run would basically mirror a similar trajectory as NBC's Friends in 2004.

Should 'The Big Bang Theory' End After Season 10?

The Big Bang Theory airs Thursdays at 8/7c on CBS.
