Outlander's Jamie and Claire have season 2 under their belts, but the Highlander and the Sassenach have a long road ahead of them.

Based on Diana Gabaldon's time traveling series, Outlander covered the events of the titular novel in season 1 and will take on the tales of Dragonfly in Amber this spring. While fans are certainly hoping that the drama will survive to film Written in My Own Heart's Blood and beyond, actors Sam Heughan (Jamie) and Caitriona Balfe (Claire) are taking it one day at a time.

"Diana is still writing, so we don't really know when it's going to end yet. Ask Diana Galbaldon that question," Heughan laughed in a holiday live stream. "We're really enjoying shooting season 2, and as we've said, we're almost finished. Season 3 would be nice."

Although Heughan and Balfe have eight tomes of character development at their fingertips, the pair isn't rushing their way through the story. Claire may have a working knowledge of the future, but even she doesn't know how her own life will unfold. The actors are hoping to maintain their characters' blissful ignorance.

"In season 1 we both started reading ahead and we got too much information," Heughan explained.

Hopefully Starz will give Jamie and Claire a chance to make their way all the way through the story.
