Fox's Bones will delve into some dark places in the second half of season 11, but it won't be too relentlessly bleak.

Hodgins (TJ Thyne) became paralyzed in the midseason finale due to the effects of the bomb, leaving everyone in shambles emotionally and, in some cases, physically. When the series returns in 2016, we will experience a bit of a time jump, giving us a taste of life in the months after the harrowing midseason finale.

Bones executive producer Michael Peterson spoke with Entertainment Weekly this month about what to expect when Bones returns on Fox.

How Hodgins & Angela Will Have A 'Difficult' Time Going Forward On 'Bones'

"A little bit. I think it's about two months," he said, of a time jump. "We're not going to see it directly after. He's going to be in physical therapy and everything else. Everyone's gotten a little bit more adjusted to the idea of this, although the concept of being ready for this and then the actual reality - I think the physical part is one thing. It's really the emotion that nobody was quite ready for."

Angela (Michaela Conlin) will get some emotional scenes moving forward as she deals with a paralyzed Hodgins. And some lines will be drawn between different characters.

"It's going to be difficult, especially when Hodgins gets to his darker places, because they're protective of him, but they're also protective of Angela, who's really going to have to bear the brunt of this," Peterson explained. "There will be times when people fall on different sides of the line. There are different allegiances that are going to happen. But this is the Bones show. We always try to aim toward a happy ending eventually. But we certainly will put everyone through the wringer."

Bones season 11 does not have a specific return date on Fox.
