Jay Leno Sued by Religious Group
Looks like the joke’s on Jay Leno. The late night TV host and comedian is being sued by a Punjabi religious organization after poking fun at Mitt Romney.
The lawsuit, according to The Hollywood Reporter, claims Leno “intentionally” made the Golden Temple, a holy shrine, look like a vacation resort, while making Sikhs vulnerable to “hatred, contempt, ridicule, and obloquy.”
Despite the claims, the plaintiff didn’t specify how the Sikh religion was damaged by Leno’s quip, but did state the joke was “objectionable”.
However, it’s unlikely the lawsuit will make it to court. A spokesperson for the US State Department told the BBC the comedian’s joke is “constitutionally protected” and “appeared to be satirical in nature.”
Leno has yet to address the lawsuit.
