The hardest stunt on Outlander doesn't involve riding a horse, wielding a sword, or winning a duel. No, for Sam Heughan, the most difficult part of his job involves saying "Sassenach."

The Scottish native plays 18th century Jamie Fraser, and while Heughan was born and raised under the St. Andrews Cross, Gaelic does not naturally trip of his tongue.
"My most challenging Outlander stunt? Speaking Gaelic!" Heughan told Scotland Now.

As difficult as it may be to pronounce, Gaelic played a defining role in season 1. As such, it was a challenge the 35 year old readily accepted.
"I'm playing a character whose first language is Gaelic and it is used as a tool in the show as Claire, who is an English character thrust into a Scottish world where they all speak a foreign language," the actor told Blastr. "It like an alien world for her, with a different time zone and Gaelic is used to separate her from this race of people."
Although Jamie will temporarily leave his homeland behind in season 2, that doesn't mean the character will get to permanently slip into English. As it turns out, the Highlander is well versed in French as well.
"Speaking French in season two is another [challenging stunt]," Heughan teased.
