Game of Thrones will officially eclipse the action of George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire book series even more with its 6th season, with the author himself confirming he has missed his deadline for the highly anticipated The Winds of Winter.

Martin announced the news on his blog Jan. 2, admitting that deadlines stress him out, and as a result, the novel would not be out before the series returns to HBO for its 6th season in April.

"Believe me, it gave me no pleasure to type those words. You're disappointed, and you're not alone," he wrote. "My editors and publishers are disappointed, HBO is disappointed, my agents and foreign publishers and translators are disappointed...but no one could possibly be more disappointed than me. For months now I have wanted nothing so much as to be able to say, 'I have completed and delivered THE WINDS OF WINTER on or before the last day of 2015. But the book's not done."

"Nor is it likely to be finished tomorrow, or next week. Yes, there's a lot written. Hundreds of pages. Dozens of chapters...But there's still a lot still left to write. I am months away still...and that's if the writing goes well," he added.

However, much to Martin's surprise, he has received support from fans despite the disappointing news that the TV show would further spoil parts of the book.

Of course, there were some jokes made at Martin's expense because the book was still not out, though they all seemed fairly good-natured:
