'Outlander' Season 2: Will Lord John Grey Be Recast? 'Voyager' & Spinoff Possibilities Prompt Concerns [VIDEO]
Outlander has a young Lord John Grey on its cast, and sooner or later the powers that be will have to select his replacement.
A fan favorite, Lord John Grey enters the storyline as a 16-year-old Redcoat during Dragonfly in Amber. Having spotted Jamie and Claire in the dark, the youngster decides to go after them on his own. After he fails to kill Jamie, the Highlander spares his life, leaving the solider in his debt.
The young Oscar Kennedy will take on the role for season 2, but the secretly gay character will be near 30 when he returns in Voyager. Considering the time jump, TV Line believes the character will ultimately be recast for season 3. The cite forwarded their own list of potential actors, which included Harry Potter's Tom Felton and Sons of Anarchy's Charlie Hunnam.
Ultimately, whichever actor snags the role, they could find themselves the star of an Outlander spinoff. The character of Lord John Grey proved so popular amongst book readers that author Diana Gabaldon penned a new series of historical mysteries for the Englishman. Based on the success of Outlander, there is a chance that Starz will opt to adapt those novels as well.
"It's in the back of our minds as a potential thing," Outlander executive producer Ron Moore explained to Digital Spy. "But right now our minds are pretty firmly set on just delivering the second season. We'll see what happens down the line on Lord Grey."
Catch Grey's debut when Outlander returns to Starz this spring.
