'Survivor 32' News: Jeff Probst Teases Special 'Super Idol', Which Could Make Game Even More Complicated
The next season of CBS's Survivor will have another special immunity idol--which is being dubbed a "super idol."
Survivor: Kaôh Rōng - Brawn vs. Brains vs. Beauty will feature the debut of the "super idol," which is created when two hidden immunity idols are put together. Survivor host Jeff Probst explained the new twist in an interview with Entertainment Weekly:
"This season, the hidden immunity idol is used like never before," Probst revealed. "The big idol twist this season is that an idol has two separate powers. If you find an idol, it has the regular powers of a normal idol, But when put together with another idol--two can actually fit together--they can be used as one super idol that can be played after the votes are read."
To clarify, each found hidden immunity idol functions as a regular idol, which is to be played before the votes are read at Tribal Council. But two people who find idols and reveal this information to each other can wield a lot of power by combining them and playing it after the votes are read. And, to make it even more powerful, the super idol can be played on anyone (unless, of course, they already have individual immunity to begin with).
While this may sound like a huge amount of power, Probst did note the risk in using a super idol.
"You can obviously only use it for one person, so that means that you have to have a strong alliance because at least one of you is giving up their own personal protection to save their partner or possibly a third person," Probst said. "It has the potential to be a massive game changer, but like all big moves it requires a big risk."
It remains to be seen how this super idol will impact the game, but if the similarly twisty Survivor: Cambodia and its crazy Tribal Councils were any indication, we may be in for some complicated gameplay in the season to come.
Survivor: Kaôh Rōng - Brawn vs. Brains vs. Beauty premieres on Feb. 17 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
