He could have died because of an infection in his heart he didn't know he had, but his actions that led to the discovery of this infection will cause Eric (Greg Vaughan) to be wracked with guilt on Days of Our Lives.

Rafe Risks Everything For Hope

His infection was discovered when he was brought into the emergency room following the massive car crash he caused by driving drunk. And though his life has been spared because of experimental drugs, his brother, Brady (Eric Martsolf), only survived the crash because he received a much-needed heart transplant from Daniel, who died.

Now, Daniel's death has devastated everyone, especially his fiancee, Nicole (Arianne Walker), who was once engaged to Eric as well. And needing someone to blame, she laid into Eric about his role in the crash and the fact that she had implored him to get a taxi to take him home that night. She also threw the fact that he had been a priest into his face as well.

Now, Eric will continue feeling endless amounts of guilt over what he has done. Not only did his actions nearly cost him his own life and his brother's, but he is the one who is going to be saddled with the blame for Salem losing the highly respected Dr. Jonas. And because of his actions, he could later face charges for what he did--and could go to jail because of it.
