‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Cast News: Kevin McKidd Likes Seeing Owen ‘More Independently’ On Series, Will He Extend His Contract? [VIDEO]
Grey's Anatomy is currently on its winter hiatus for a little bit longer, and while the series has not officially been renewed yet for a thirteenth season, it seems like the possibility is high given its good ratings, accolades and contract negotiations with the cast.

Kevin McKidd, the portrayer of Dr. Owen Hunt, revealed to TVLine at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, California that he is "in talks" to finalize a new deal with the series since his current contract expires at the end of the current season.
"I don't see any reason why it wouldn't happen. I love [the show]," he shared.

It sounds like the medical drama will definitely be sticking around and McKidd's character will, too.
The actor joined the series during its fifth season with his character becoming much more than just part of Dr. Cristina Yang's (Sandra Oh) story.
"I'm not being corny or giving you the party line, but this has been like a family for me," McKidd said of being part of Grey's Anatomy, adding, "I came in as just an actor, and now I'm directing, I'm also talking--tentatively--about developing something beyond Grey's for Shondaland."
"Shondaland creates this environment where if you're trusted and become part of the family then you're given opportunities to thrive and grow," he further explained, noting, "I don't see any reason why I would run away from that. I feel very blessed."
While he's "also talking" about something outside of Grey's Anatomy, he does love portraying Owen.
"I'm still unearthing [new] things about Owen that deepen the character," he stated, adding, "For many years, Owen was just a reflection of Cristina. He was there just as someone to bounce things off of Cristina. Now we're getting to see Owen a little more independently and learn about who this guy is outside of the Cristina Yang of it all. So I'm really enjoying that. I don't feel as though I'm finished."
Grey's Anatomy returns to ABC on Feb. 11 at 8 p.m. ET.
