....during an epic Jimmy Kimmel sketch.

X-Files will return to Fox on Jan. 24, but David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson took fans back to the '90s on Tuesday night. The agents are so used to piecing together the facts in a world of microfiche and dialup Internet, and in Kimmel's spoof, the pair aren't quite ready to dive into the world of smartphones and snapchat.

As the series' sci-fi overture plays over Mulder and Scully's discover of the government greatest secret - a real live alien! - Kimmel comes in to help them adjust to the real world.

"This isn't the '90s anymore. We've moved on," Kimmel explained.

The agents should worry, however. America still loves the X-Files, which just wish the leads will love each other.

"You two should have sex," Kimmel implores. "You should. It's been like 23 years...it's time to do it already."

Finally, at long last, the pair get that on screen action that never made it air all thoe years ago. Unfortunately for fans, this is the only Scully/Mulder romance you'll see this winter - when the reboot begins, the former couple will have gone their separate ways.
