'American Horror Story' Season 6 Ideas: How Upcoming Installment Will Break From Tradition
We now know the first details regarding season 6 of FX's American Horror Story--however minuscule the details may be!
Season 6 of American Horror Story will take place in the present, with shadings of the past, according to FX president John Landgraf.
Landgraf spoke with critics at the TCA press tour over the weekend, saying season 6 will be "set in the present" but with "echoes of the past." This sounds similar to American Horror Story: Coven, which took place in the present but also featured Madame LaLaurie (Kathy Bates) and Marie Laveau (Angela Bassett) from the 1800s.
Where Does 'Hotel' Fall On Your 'American Horror Story' Season Ranking?
"It's set in two time periods," Landgraf noted, "but principally in the present."
Of course, Landgraf couldn't say much else, admitting that executive producer "Ryan [Murphy] will kill me if I tease anything" else.
With season 6 taking place in the present, it breaks the pattern of even-numbered seasons primarily taking place in the past. Seasons 2 (Asylum) and 4 (Freak Show) were period pieces, while seasons 1 (Murder House), 3 (Coven) and 5 (Hotel) had contemporary settings.
The theme of season 6 has yet to be announced. Lady Gaga announced Hotel as the theme of season 5 in late February last year, so we may see a similar announcement around this time for season 6. As for the returning cast, Murphy has only revealed Bassett as returning for season 6.
American Horror Story season 6 premieres in the fall on FX.
