'Days of Our Lives' Cast News: Were Soon-Exiting Kassie DePaiva & Greg Vaughan Underutilized? [PHOTO]
They're both veterans in the soap opera world, but both Greg Vaughan and Kassie DePaiva are making exits from Days of Our Lives in the next few weeks-and their departures are ones that aren't being well-received by fans.
Both were fired from the soap-Vaughan after returning to the legacy role of Eric Brady in Nov. 2012, and DePaiva after she was brought on in 2014 to tackle the role of Eve Donovan, and now, with DePaiva's final airdate coming next week, fans are angered by the fact that the two were both let go from the soap.
Soap Shows recently posted about the loss and how it was unfair of the soap to cut the two actors, who were both given less than stellar material to work with throughout 2015.
The website notes that Vaughan was given a terrible storyline with the previously unknown love of his life Serena (Melissa Archer), who was literally after an elephant statue of Eric's that he had no idea contained a secret stash of blood diamonds. The story only became more bizarre and strange after another unknown character-an evil Kiriakis relative-got caught up in the scheme and tried to kill Eric.
Then, he was given a storyline where he began to drink heavily after Serena's death, which really had no traction until the horrible events occurred during the New Year's episode where he drove drunk and caused a car accident which killed Daniel. Now, he has a storyline to work with-but it becomes almost pointless since fans know that he'll gone within a few months.
Similarly, DePaiva's entrance as Eve was squandered on a ridiculous revenge plot against Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) and a bad hook-up plot involving her teen daughter Paige's boyfriend JJ (Casey Moss). Finally, after Paige was also murdered, Eve was given a meaty storyline, and she played a grieving mother incredibly well. But again, it was bittersweet, because her departure was already pre-determined.
