'Downton Abbey' Season 4 Spoilers: Sarah O'Brien Character Exit, Details (Video)
Although Downton Abbey has continued to rise as one of TV's premier shows both in the U.S. and overseas in the U.K., the inevitability of departing actors has continued to plague them. Just when fans thought they could take a sigh of relief, another actor has now decided to depart from the popular to series - Siobhan Finneran.
From the moment she debuted in the very first episode, the Sarah O'Brien character had stirred up trouble. However, the scheming maid's presence is about to come to a screeching halt, as Finneran, who can soon be seen in BBC's The Syndicate, stated that she won't be back.
While Finneran was quick to admit to Daily Mail that she enjoyed the role, she had no qualms about her career intentions moving forward.
"I'm not doing it anymore. O'Brien is a thoroughly despicable human being - that was great to play," she said.
During Finneran's stint on the program, she's been in a feud with under-butler Thomas Barrow, and was the main reason for Cora Crawley's miscarriage.
A Downton Abbey spokesperson gave the confirmation that Finneran wouldn't be on the fourth season, but it was made clear that the door could be left ajar for a future return.
Although it's still uncertain as to how the Sarah character will be written out of the series, the U.K. site speculates that it may be the perfect opportunity for several characters to get revenge on her.
During the Christmas Special, fans were surprised to see the death of Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens), as he was killed in an auto accident.
Nonetheless, the rest of the cast have now begun shooting the upcoming season. The actors were witnessed filming scenes around the grave of Matthew. Led by Dame Maggie Smith, the rest of the cast appears sad and angered at what seemed to be a memorial service for the late Crawley.
Downton Abbey is set to return at some point in the fall of 2013. Information on the upcoming season will be posted as it's revealed.
